Hi,

you may need to play with the met dose to find one that works best for you. Ask your doctor about trying a higher dose. Met can take some time to work as well.

If you are not planning to become pregnant you could try an antiandrogen bcp such as Diane (but not available in US) or Yasmin which may help with the skin and oiliness. Some women use a drug called spironolactone - but if you take this you must use a very effective form of birth control becuase it can cause birth defects in male babies.

For carbs, it is not good or healthy to cut out carbs completely. Some women have to be more strict than others to get effects however would recommend a moderate approach first which is more likely to be sustainable. Probably most important with the carbs is to avoid anything sugary, starchy or highly refined (ie soft drinks, fruit juice, white bread, white rice, pasta, noodles, cakes, cookies, potatoes, anything highly processed - ie. fast foods) and get most of your carbs from vegetables (other than potatoes - though some is probably ok) and whole grain and other high fibre sources. Fruit is pretty high in sugar and while it is healthy don't overdo it.

Best wishes

Sally
