Metformin and The Pill

I was diagnsed with PCOS when I was 13. I was put on the pill and I have been on it ever since. I am now 22. I was told by my GP and specialist that there was nothing that could be done for me and that if I didn't have children within my twenties - I couldn't.

Recently I saw a specialist and she prescribed Metformin. I thought this was going to be the miracle cure I had waited for for so long. However, I haven't seen the results I was hoping for and I wondered how long I could expect to wait for positive results to happen. I've suffered the side effects of taking Metformin...but not seen the results! I have been taking it nearly 3 months and I wonder whether coming off the pill would be advisable? I have been using Dianette for 4 years and many other brands before that. In total I have been on the pill for 9 years, and although it has had a positive effect on my free hormone levels etc there have been no physical improvement in my symtoms. If anything, the physical symptoms have got worse.

What can I do to make Metformin more effective for me? Should I come off the pill? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
