Re: Dr sam or anyone - does high cholesterol & triglycerides mean metformin isnt working? From: anonymous@obgyn.netSat, 3 Aug 2002 12:26:06 -0500 (CDT)
do you have results from before you started the metformin. If you don't, you don't know, they may have been even higher before. To reduce cholesterol: 1. regular vigorous aeraobic exercise (easily said, n ot so easily done!) 2. cut out all the saturated and processed fats. Eat your fats as olive oil, fish oil, avocado, etc. Don't cut out all fats from your diet. I have read that, especioally for women, a very low fat diet can exacerbate cholesterol problems. 3. Cut out refined carbohydrates (white bread, sugar, candy, white rice, whit4e pasta, fruit juice etc) and stick to the high fibre carbs. 4. Moderate (and I do mean MODERATE) alcohol consumption )(skip this if you cna't stay moderate) 5. Don't smoke 6. Avoid or limit high cholesterol foods. 7. There are drugs that can help reduce cholesterol levels. Best wishes
Sally
