Dr sam, please can you advise?From: louise-uk (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sun, 28 Jul 2002 08:12:14 -0500 (CDT)
Dear Dr sam, please can you help me. Ive been on and off the pill (dianette) for the past 10 years. The only reason im on the pill is to stop hair loss, which dianette usually does, however the last 2 months i have noticed that my hair loss has increased and my body hair is getting thicker. Im sticking to a really low everything diet, exercising for 2 hours at least 6 times a week and it still doesnt seem to be enough. Im also taking metformin and have been doing for the last 2 years with little effect really. Can you suggest any reason why dianette would suddenly stop working, and anything that i can take to stop the hair loss. Ideally i would prefer to be off the pill, as it makes me put on weight. do you think spironolactone would be a good alternative? Im just a bit worried about the diuretic effects of this though as i exercise alot and can become dehydrated quite quickly. Can you suggest any other form of treatent. My doc over here has prescribed actos, but im a little scared of trying it due to the comments about weight gain. Would really appreciate some advice, thanks louise
