differences of two seperate kinds of necon?

I was prescribed necon .5/35-28 and have been taking it for a while now with no problems. Today I went to pick up my prescription and found necon 1/50-28 in the bag instead. Are these the same things? Are they completely different? I'm wondering what the difference of mestranol and ethinyl estradiol are. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks so much.
