PCOS and SpironolactoneFrom: Marna (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 24 Jul 2002 12:02:05 -0500 (CDT)
I have a 14 year old who was diagnosed 1 1/2 years ago with PCOS. Her initial course of medication was Glucophage, which has been discontinued. She also takes low dose birth control pills. She was then put on Sprinolactone because her Testosterone level was 107 and has been taking it for a year. During the last 2.5 months she has started to gain weight again, without any change in activity or eating habits. She had blood work conducted 2 weeks ago which showed that her Testosterone level is down to 17. Although the range is 10 to 50 she presently at the low end of the range. Could being at the low end of the Testosterone range cause her hormones to be out of balance, thus causing the weight gain? Anybody have any input? Thanks.
