Re: DVTFrom: Sue (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 23 Jul 2002 09:29:40 -0500 (CDT)
>Do you know of anything I can take to have a period which will not cause a DVT?< You don't indicate if you suffer from PCO, but if you do, there are alternatives. You should really be under the care of a RE if you're not already--you should be able to take Provera (the progesterone doesn't cause clotting, but estrogen does), and if your practioner is squeamish about that, then try upping your insulin sensitizer. When your insulin levels are correct, then your body should kick in to gear and start manifesting normal periods. Insulin sensitizers come in 3 forms: metformin (glucophage), pioglitazone (Actos), and Avandia (don't know the chemical name for this one). All three will do the appropriate job in your system; the latter two don't cause any gastrointestinal discomfort as the former can. I had several DVTs in July 2000 from the bcp--mine migrated to my lungs and became pulmonary emboli, though. Hope yours didn't and that you're not having too many unpleasant side effects from the coumadin. HTH
