Starting Glucophage...what should I expect?

I am 24 years old and have had the symptoms of PCOS since I was 14. Actually, the only symptom I had was irregular/absent periods. Anyway, I saw an OBGYN and she is starting me on Glucophage next week. What should I expect? I am a VERY active person (I run marathons). I am not overweight, but I do tend to gain weight around my middle. My blood work for insulin resistance was inconclusive, but they feel since I have the other symptoms of insulin resistance (high blood pressure, bad cholestoral readings despite being a vegetarian) that it would be a good idea to start me on it now, while I am young. Are there side effects to the drug? I am at a normal weight (130 pounds, five foot one) so will I lose weight?? Please email me at ARCurlyQ@aol.com if you have any advice for me! Andrea
