Hi Tangy!

Well, since you've mentioned it....I've just restarted the met at a VERY low dose and my teeth seem a bit more sensitive too. However, I also have a severely cracked upper molar that's already had a root canal AND porcelain crown put on in the past couple months. (The dentist said that if it hurts too much now, the only option is to pull it because it's most likely cracked into the roots.)

I also tend to clench my teeth/jaw when I'm concentrating or sometimes just because. I do this while sleeping too...not necessarily grinding them (although I don't have a sleeping partner to tell me if I do or not), but I do know I clench them. This tends to make them more sensitive. I wear a bite guard, made by my dentist, while sleeping at night, to help avoid the excess stress this causes to my teeth.

Could it be that you're a little more stressed being concerned with starting a new med and watching for any side effects and in the process, maybe you're clenching/grinding your teeth at night and not aware of it? This could make them more sensitive at times.

If it's more one side than the other, perhaps you've got something going on....cavity...cracked tooth...loose filling? Or maybe your bite is off. Have you had any recent dental work done of any type....root canal, crown, filling, etc? Some proceedures can cause the tissues to swell a bit, raising a tooth/teeth so you hit them (and the ones opposite them) harder when you chew. This can cause extra sensitivity.

You could try using some of those toothpastes for sensitive teeth for a couple weeks if the pain isn't too awful. If that doesn't help or it gets worse, then I'd check with my dentist.

Hope these ideas help you figure out what's happening!

Hugs

Shelley

Has anyone taken Metformin and found that their teeth start hurting? My teeth are soooooo sensitive now.. It's only on the right side of my mouth. It began as one tooth on the top right side (on first day of Met) then the teeth on my bottom right side have started hurting. They don't hurt just sitting idly, but when I eat/drink anything that's not the same temp. as my mouth. Am I being too concerned here? I called the PHarmacist, but they've never heard of that kind of reaction. Anyone here know what's gonig on??? :( :( :(

Thanks, Tangy
