I began having hypoglycemic episodes as a nine year old. I think this
was the first indication of PCOS. I was diagnosed with PCOS by my
gynecologist at the age of 24 based on the absence of menstruation and
abnormal hair growth. These symptoms had been present since my early
teens. At 24 I was put on oral birth control as a "treatment," and told
"there was more we could do when I was ready to conceive." At 28 I was
ready to conceive and began a 6 year quest for a baby, beginning with
clomid and ending with a successful GIFT procedure (baby girl - now 4)at
the age of 33. At the age of 36 I conceived again (baby boy - now 1)
"the old fashioned way" thanks to 1500 mg/day of glucophage. I am
watching both of my children carefully for any indication of PCOS
related symptoms. I haven't seen any research results with children. If
anyone has information please post references.
