Benny-

Glad you are getting some testing done - I hope the results provide some answers (although often they come back inconclusive...). My original OB told me I just had bad luck and that the next pregnancy would be better. It wasn't until I found a new OB and pushed to have additional testing done that I found out the other things I needed to address.

There are many different types of immune issues and the treatment varies (and is often controversial) depending on the type of issue one has. Please don't panic when you read what I have- as odds are you don't have these issue - but why not test and at least rule them out? Especially if your insurance will cover the testing.

I personally have several- related - immune issues... MTHFR - a gene mutation which affects the way folic acid is matabolized in the body - for this I take baby aspirin, B6 and B12, and folic acid (MTHFR can cause blood clots during pregnancy and cause a miscarriage - some people only take baby aspirin for this and do fine). My husband has the same thing - which is quite rare!

Antiphospholipid Antibodies - this can cause the blood to clot during pregnancy - I take heprin for this also.

My husband and I also share the same DQ Alpha (which means part of our DNA is similar so my body doesn't react to the baby (embryo, fetus, etc.) properly and doesn't build up good antibodies to protect the baby. This in combination with having high NK killers cells that try to fight off the baby as a cancer can cause early pregnancy loss as well. For this issue I take prednizone (a steroid to suppress my immune system) and I also get IVIG therapy which basically pumps me up with antibodies from other people that protect the baby when my body doesn't. This therapy is the controversial one and it is very expensive - thankfully my insurance covers it.

So as you can see - although I have PCOS - I also had a lot of other issues going on that can cause miscarriages. So the main lesson I learned is to push my doctors for additional tests - to at least rule out other issues and hopefully focus on what is really going on with me.

The good news is that you don't have problems getting pregnant - which means that your losses have either been truly bad luck (chromosomal or genetic) or there is something in the environment that the baby is growing in that is not quite right - perhaps low progesterone (which is easily addressed with shots and supplements) or immune related issues.

I hope this helps and doesn't make you more confused...
