Re: DianetteFrom: Victoria (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 2 Jul 2002 10:58:37 -0400
From: "Fergus" <anonymous@obgyn.net> I was responding to a writer who indicated her doctor had prescribed her Dianette as the sole medication for PCOS. I was observing that since Dianette only masks the symptoms and doesn't treat the underlying syndrome, it does nothing to lessen your risk as a PCOS sufferer of developing type II diabetes and uterine cancer.
>> That's why I put out the link to the study (think I have more) that show that the pill appears to lessen the risk of diabetes, and the study mentions PCOS specifically. I was looking for the information on endometrial cancer, as to how you found that out. You didn't say. My advocacy of Glucophage in this specific case is that Dianette should not be the primary drug prescribed to treat PCOS; that should be Glucophage. Dianette might be appropriate alongside Glucophage, and of course a proper diet and reasonable exercise regimen.
>> Why not just diet and exercise or herbal treatments or even the pill alone (from previous studies I've mentioned)? Kat Carney of soulcysters.com didn't do Glucophage and apparently is doing quite well. What about those people who claim to not be IR? Glucophage can be effective in 50% to 90% of the population, depending on study. I'm trying to get people to think and research what they believe in ... and no, to those of you thinking it, I'm not against Metformin. Check out some of my posts here and on the PCOS list. Victoria
