Using BCPs and metformin

I have been reading the threads on the use of BCPs and met, but I am still unclear on whether it is okay to combine these or not. I am currently only on BCPs (ortho-cyclen), but am very curious about metformin and its effects on acne, hair, and weight, etc. I am not trying to get pregnant yet. I have had PCOS since my late teens (I am now 32) and have only used BCPs to help symptoms. I want to see if metformin makes a difference. I also have not had any GTT tests, but my fasting glucose was within normal limits, so I am not sure I have insulin resistance or it hasnt shown up on tests. Any info on combining BCPS and met would be great!

Also-what is the best argument to persuade my doctor to put me on metformin if he objects based on negative results to insuling resistance?

Thanks!!! I am so glad to have found this discussion group. Jennifer
