PCOS, Depo Provera, and MetforminFrom: msmyczek (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat, 15 Jun 2002 08:36:32 -0500 (CDT)
Hello, I have some questions about this combination if anyone has any experience with them... I'm 21 y/o, diagnosed w/PCOS when I was 14. This week I plan on talking to my dr. about going on Metformin to help with my weight and excessive hair as well as other PCOS symptoms. However, I'm also interested in switching from the pill to depo provera. I travel to europe quite often and fear the time changes (I always take the pill at 9am, no matter what time zone I am in) will make the pill less effective. The only thing is that I have been seeing some articles online that Depo Provera leads to PCOS in some women--- if this is true should women already diagnosed with PCOS be taking this medication? Also, I've read that women with PCOS should have periods every 3-4 months to prevent endometrical carcinoma-- is this another reason why I should avoid Depo Provera (as it often makes periods absent in women who take it longer than one year)? Thanks in advance!
