Dr., I need advice about hair loss Please!From: Mindy (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 13 Jun 2002 15:55:16 -0500 (CDT)
Hello, I am taking 1500mg of metformin a day and generic demulen bcp's. My hair is falling out in big hand fulls. It is noticeably thinner to everyone who knows me. My lab tests say my testosterone levels are normal now. My thyroid has been checked and once it was abnormal and the retest said it was barely normal( all three hormones were tested). I had a baby 18 months ago and so my doctor wants to blame that for the hair loss. I do not agree especially since my thyroid has been acting up. Also I do not trust the test results because when I was pregnant I am sure that I developed this thyroid problem and was tested then but results were fine. I am worried that I have a thyroid problem like most other pcosers and won't get treatment. I also was tested for lupus and was negative(my mother has lupus). Do you think it could be my thyroid even though tests say not? Or could it be the metformin? Is there any harm in taking thyroid meds anyway?
