Hi Jen,

Here is my story. Jan 2001, I noticed my acne coming back and hair starting to growth on my body. I panicked and when to an obgyn who prescribed orthotricycline. i took it for about 6 months and my acne, hair got pretty bad and I was crying and moody all the time. So I went to an endocrinologist who took me off the pill and put me on spiro. It turned out the my blood pressure went up a lot and my cholesteral went up by 50 after taking the orthotricycline. You should get your cholesteral tested. My endo told me that iit is easy for doctors to prescribe 'the pill' to pcos patients b/c they don't need to think. So, I am off the pill now and am taking just the spiro, been about 4 months. 2 on 50 mg, increased to 100mg for 2 months now. The hair on my head has almost stopped falling off. I shave my legs and I notice that the hair growing in is a lot thinner. As for the new hair, it is still growing b/c I don't shave my arms. The women on the pcos board tells me that it takes a while for the spiro to work, so I am holding my breath. Where are you having excess hair?

My skin has also improved a lot since taking the spiro also. btw, did you get your free and total testosterone tested?

I think the pill might be making your symptoms worse like it did me. Are you seeing an endocrinologist? Maybe you should just take the spiro if you don't need the pill for birth control and regulating your periods or go with another pill. Are you having weight problems? If you do, you might have IR and might need IR meds, which should help with the weight and your periods and lower testosterone levels. Anyway, that is just my 2 cents. You should talk to your doc.
