Yes, it is pretty normal from my knowledge. I've normally been on a specific dosage for at least 3 months to see what the results. It also is necessary for most people to adjust to the medication and ease into it. Since I had already tried Metformin before, I started at 1000 and then increased to 1500 after 60 days and then 2000 after another 60 days. I do have a few friends that only take 500 mg and never have increased from there. If your doctor didn't ask for or schedule a return visit within 3-6 months, I'd definitely follow up. You may need to have liver function or other tests after being on it for 2-3 months to see how your body is handling it.
