Re: glucophageFrom: grace (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 31 May 2002 20:40:27 -0500 (CDT)
I understand this, but after seeing 7 endocrinologists and 4 PCOS specialists, I was told the same by all but one. Visit http://www.vh.org. Though metformin (glucophage) may block the absorption of folic acid and zinc, it is important not to take these (or any for that matter) vitamins in excess unless your body is actually lacking it to begin with. All vitamins, even the famous vitamin C have toxicity levels (go see http://www.merck.com for information on vitamin toxicity levels). Just because someone takes metformin doesn't mean their folic and zinc levels will drop, because all bodies are different. If there is a vitamin deficiency, then your doctor may tell you to take a certain dosage of a certain vitamin each day. Check out the sites I listed and see some of the stuff on toxicities...it's pretty neat how they can arrange their info. Keep me posted if you see any sites too...
