Hi Lori, Pergonal was one of the first injectible fertility drugs. They have other names for it now, including Repronex, I guess. It's a combination of the hormones responsible for stimulating follicles to grow (FSH) and I believe the other is the one that is the luteinizing Hormone (LH). Metrodin is a purer form of the hormone....I think it is only FSH. (It's been a VERY long time since I was on these meds and was reading everything I could about them.) Fertinex is one of the newer names that came up as the same medication as Metrodin when I ran a search. Clomid, the oral medication used to combat infertility, is not an actual hormone. It does, however, work to help your body produce the hormones that need to be there to produce an egg and ovulate. Incidently....when I was on Pergonal, I was told it was made from the hormone found in urine, and that they most often used nuns as the donors for this. Hmmm...anyone else got "the story" about it? I know that when I went thru my years of infertility (I also have a 17 year old who was conceived with clomid therapy), they didn't know about the insulin link for PCOS, and there was very little if any information available. Guess you would consider it the dark ages as far as PCOS went. I know several of the women in the different PCOS forums have conceived once the insulin link has been address thru medications......some of them had even tried the super powerful injectibles without success before that!
