Re: Metformin & Ritalin?

I ran a quick "interactions" check at a drug interactions site and it said there were no known interactions with these meds. Here is the link, if you'd like to check yourself....or for any meds!

I wonder if the metformin might be dropping your blood sugar or something to give you the dizzy feelings? Can you keep a diary of when you eat, what you eat, what times you take your medicines, and when these spells occur? That might help your doctor figure out what is going on.

There are other medications that address the insulin resistance issue of PCOS that you may take besides metformin. Actos and Avandia are two of the most popular. Did you notice these reactions when you were at a lower dose of Metformin? If not, perhaps your body will adjust....but I'd still keep a close watch on how you're feeling as I mentioned above and avoid adding any new medications (even over the counter things or herbal things) to the mix, and I'd avoid upping my dosage on anything before you find out exactly what is going on.

Good luck! I hope you get some answers quick.

Hugs,

Shelley

Hi, I'm new to the board, PCOS & Metformin. I'm 38yo and would like to try and have a baby - so I just recently went to an OBGYN (we're military and move a lot) who diagnosed me with PCOS after many many blood tests and a vaginal sonogram. She started me on provera which kickstarted my first period in 6 months and holy cow it was a bad one. I started metformin 2 weeks ago and just today went to a higher dose. I'm also an ADD adult and have controlled it with Ritalin for years. I told the doc today that I go thru dizzy spells and my face either tingles or feels numb. I guess this is indicitive of mixing alchohol and Metformin - but I'm not a drinker so I'm confused. My OBGYN does not know of anyone taking both Ritalin & Metformin but she is going to check into it. In the meantime is anyone here aware of any interaction problems with these 2 meds?

I'm under the belief that Metformin is the only med available for me and later she is going to add clomid to the mix. But after scanning these forums I've noticed other meds ya'll are taking. I'd hate to think that I won't be able to take the Metformin due to this weird reaction I'm having.

Also - so much for losing weight - I've gained 12 pounds in 2 weeks! I haven't changed my eating at all but I did have the period from hell that I'm at the end of now and am praying that's where the extra 12 pounds are coming from.

Look forward to hearing from someone.

Keewester
