PCOS and weight problemFrom: Natalia (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 30 May 2002 09:24:33 -0500 (CDT)
I was diagnosed with PCOS when I was 15, that was 17 years ago. In 1999 I decided to undergo bariatric surgery. I had the Roux-en-y gastric bypass. I am very happy because I was able to lose 100 lbs. My only question is why I still have all the symptoms of PCOS even if I am thin. All my blood work resulted in great marks. My only problem is PCOS (testosterone level 69). My endo has placed me on 30 mg a day of ACTOS. I have been taking it for 6 days and I don't seem to be having any side effects. Does anyone know what I should expect under this medication? Will I ever be off of it? All the literature I have read on PCOS indicate that losing the weight controls the symptoms, well I am 5'5 and weight 128 lbs. I am very healthy, so I don't know why the symptoms never go away. My acne is uncontrollable! Thanks, Ana
