Hi Jennifer,

at your age ovarian cancer is MOST unlikely. Is there any family history of ovarian cancer at a very young age? The chances of this being something else not serious is VERY high. Cramps are more likely due to other reasons - just regular painful periods (many women do have painful periods without any medically identified reason), the PCOS itself (some women do have cramps), endometriosis. To reassure yourself, go visit a gynecologist and get a check up.

When you get scared about some physical problem, the key is to look for the simplest explanation first. Usually it is the most likely. It is amazing how good we are at scaring ourselves (every headache is a possible brain tumor, every stomach pain is appendicitis):-). I am an expert at this!!! However, anything you are worried about should be checked by a good dr. and you should receive a reasonable explanation for your symptoms.

To minimise problems, you should be making sure that you have periods regularly (if you don't get them naturally, you could use provera or BCP).

Is your PCOS being treated? Treatment is normally a combination of diet, exercise and, perhaps, insulin sensitising medication.

Best wishes
