BCP, ovarian suppression, follicles

Hi,

hope this is not a silly question.

I have been on metformin, diane-35, thyroxine and calcitriol for about 9 months. Just had transvaginal ultrasound today (today is day 6 - ten days since I last took Diane, and about 6 days since my period reluctantly started (it lasted for about 3 days)). The ultrasound showed numerous small 'follicles' on left ovary and a number of large 'follicles' or 'cysts' on the right. The technician said that this is not normal for this stage of the cycle....? IS that right? I thought BCP would suppress 'follicle' formation. Does mean that the BCP is not suppressing anything? Is the metformin supposed to stop the numerous follicles forming - cause it stops the excess insulin? I am not restarting the diane-35 for this next cycle cause I want to see if I get a 'normal' period on my own - otherwise how do I know if the met is working?

The ultrasound technologist also told me that polycystic ovaries - if they have large cysts, are associated with cysts in other organs (I don't)..... but has anyone ever heard of this? This is a new one for me.

Haven't seen the co-ordinating dr. yet to discuss results (this was an executive package checkup) - but she does not seem knowledgeable on PCOS because she didn't understand why I was taking Met when I didn't have diabetes. I think I had better research some information and give it to her when I see her next week. Anyway, my regular endo will see all the results later anyway.....

Sorry if this is a bit muddled. Any comments would be welcome.
