Connie - re your question on MTHFRFrom: Lori (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sun, 12 May 2002 15:42:32 -0700 (PDT)
Connie- You can definitely have a successful pregnancy even with MTHFR. You simply need to take extra folic acid (4mg a day while pregnant) along with some extra B6 and B12 to help with the absorption. You should take this for the MTHFR anyway - just a lesser amount of folic acid when not pregnant. There is a prescription for MTHFR that has the perfect combination - it is called Folgard RX 2.2, your doctor will probably also have you take a baby aspirin a day. I am on heprin for MTHFR (I am currently 11 weeks pregnant) and this is the furthest a pregnancy has gone for me - I lost the other at 7wks and the first was a blighted ovum. Whether or not to prescribe heprin differs amongst physicians. I would also recommend getting other immune tests done (only if you have had miscarriages in the past) since sometimes MTHFR is linked with other immune related issues. There is a great cafe on Inciid you might want to check out - it's called immune issues cafe and is monitored by a Reproductive Immunologist - it is great! http://www.inciid.org Good luck - Lori LAUNCH - Your Yahoo!
