It might be that you are one of the people who can't tolerate Metformin, or that the Metformin brings down your sugar very low. There are other things you can do, such as Metformin XR, Actos, Avandia, or style of eating/exercise to help keep levels down. If you are having problems, I would discuss this immediately with your doctor, to see what else you can use to help. Lactic acidosis generally happens when someone is dehydrated, or is older, or has kidney problems. You might want to check on http://www.rxlist.com and search for Metformin, which will give you an idea of the specific side effects. Alcohol and Metformin don't mix for everyone. Some people can handle it, some can't.
