Hi,

not everyone has severe side effects from metformin. I had none - and many people have minimal effects which fade away after a short time - and they are not greatly inconvenienced! Others have severe effects, but these also settle down quickly - such effects can be minimised by starting slowly. Just you mainly hear from people who had bad side effects on this board. If you already have the prescription for the regular, I reckon you should try that - starting at a minimum dose and working up slowly. If you find you really cant tolerate the regular, then you could ask your Dr. for the XR type.

The XR type cannot be cut in half. It has to be taken whole.

Hope this helps
