Hi,

Would like to clarify. The Zone and Sugar Busters do not try to get you into ketosis the way Atkins does. Their approach instead is to control the amount and type of carbs that you eat (does not ban carbs, only 'bans' the highly refined type - sugary foods, white bread, white rice, white flour) so that a steady level of insulin is maintained.

The Zone actually encourages a large amount of veges and fruits and some complex carb grains such as oatmeal. Even whole grain/ whole wheat bread (in limited amounts) is ok (for Sugar Busters). Problem with the zone is that it can be very low calorie (cause veges are low calorie) - hence the need to be sure to eat enough calories - though I imagine that can be managed by snacking more often and eating things like nuts, some dried fruits, cheese, etc.

As mentioned it is important not to try to diet strictly during breast feeding. YOu may expect to lose some weight (after all baby does take quite a few calories and your body actually stores fat during pregnancy to allow you to have reserves for breast feeding), but this should be slow and 'natural' not forced through severe food restriction.

I believe that taking the principles of the Zone or Sugar busters (even if you don't follow it to a T) is a good basis for a healthy diet. THat is my personal opinion.
