trying to conceive but suspect IR or PCOS..... what testing should be done? From: Karen (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 23 Apr 2002 13:51:16 -0500 (CDT)
Hi, I've been lurking on this message board for a few weeks now and have found it very helpful. I have a few questions, but first here's my short story: We lost our first pregnancy in November due to an ectopic pregnancy (I look metheltrexate). I started temp charting on December 14th; my first cycle was 40 days and and I didn't ovulate - just some light bleeding. Then, nothing until I O'd on April 17th (6 days ago), which was day 83 of my second "cycle". I have NEVER had that long of a cycle. I have a dr. appointment on Friday to discuss my anovulation. I've been suspecting insulin resistance and possibly PCOS from what I've been reading on the web. I am overweight, don't ovulate very much, and have insulin resistance symptoms. My question is, what tests should I take to be SURE of insulin resistance or PCOS? (is it always possible to diagnosis insulin resistance?) A few weeks ago, he suggested some insulin lowering medication combined with clomid, but I just wasn't ready to make that decision. My dr. is very hard to get an appointment with, so I want to come to this appt with questions and a plan of action. Thanks so much for any help you can give! -Karen God is Bigger!!!
