Colleen, I dealt with my acne long before my PCOS diagnosis. Although I was plagued with acne as a teen, I didn't start getting cysts until I was an adult. I tried many different antibiotics, topical antibiotics, Differin, Retin-A and way too many things to list here. What finally worked for me was Accutane. It is some pretty harsh stuff with definate side effects. I had to take blood tests. And very expensive if you don't have RX coverage. It is a definite NO!!! if you are TTC and you have to be extremely careful with contraception. The amazing thing is - it worked. And it is not just a treatment it is a cure. I have only had maybe 2 cysts since I finished it 2 years ago. Most people see improvement for 8-10 years or longer. Roche - the Manufacturer has a website with lots of info. If my acne started back up I know that I would take it again rather than suffer all those painful cysts.
