Fatique and/or depression with AvandiaFrom: Bill (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 17 Apr 2002 23:23:14 -0500 (CDT)
Hi, all. I'm on disability because of my long-term, ongoing depression. With that comes no small amount of fatigue. I am also a type II diabetic and obese. I had been taking Glucophage at 1 g per day dosage. I also had excessively frequent bowel movements (15-25 times per day), most of which consisted of very small amounts of soft stool or diarrhea. When I complained to my doctor about this, he put me on Avandia (I'm now at 8 mg per day). There was a period of about 2 weeks when my bowel situation returned to "normal" (movements 4-6 times per day of mostly firm stools). But after that, everything gradually returned to EXACTLY the same situation as before: 15-25 bowel movements per day of either a small amount of soft stools or diarrhea. In other words, I've seen no sustained improvement from the switch to Avandia. HOWEVER, after being on Avandia now for a few months, I've noticed that I'm significantly more fatigued and somewhat more depressed than I was while taking Glucophage. So, here are my questions: Has anyone else noticed a significant increase in fatigue and listlessness from taking Avandia? If so, do you feel like the Avandia itself is directly responsible for the fatigue? Or do you just feel more depressed and feel that whatever increased fatique you feel comes from a worsening of your depression? Are substantially increased frequency of bowel movements associated Type II diabetes itself, or is it caused by the medications? Please let me know what you think. Thanks!
