Hello Emily,

First off, CONGRATULATIONS on your pregnancy!! That is wonderful news. I, too, am 5 1/2 weeks pregnant. I have been on Glucophage XR 2000mg/day for the last year. I absolutely plan to stay on it at least through the first trimester. All of the literature I have read suggests that it will help to prevent early miscarriage. My doctor is a big proponent of it and didn't even second guess keeping me on it. He has had several patients do so and they have without exception done wonderfully. I know many other women on this message board have sadly reported losses after discontinuing the Glucophage. I, too, am on Prometrium (600mg Three times daily) as a preventative measure. So far, the doctor reports that everything is looking fantastic and I feel cautiously optomistic. If you would like to read some off these reports on Glucophage and pregnancy do a "glucophage and pregnancy" search and many links will pop up. Glucophage is a pregnancy class B drug which means that while studies haven't been done (it is rare that drug companies EVER do studies on the effects of drugs on pregnant women...you can only imagine why) there also haven't been reports that it causes bad things when used in pregnancy.

I wish you the very best of luck. Try to not worry too much and enjoy your pregnancy!!

Haley
