Dr. ? Low Carb Diet While PregnantFrom: Jonna (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 4 Apr 2002 09:04:19 -0600 (CST)
Hi there, I'm new to this forum in the form of posting, however I've been reading messages for some time. I've been diagnosed with PCOS by my infertility specialist and have been taking metformin and I've been on a low carb diet. I recently became pregnant and was curious about a low carb diet while pregnant. I know it is good for my body since I am Insulin Resistant, but I've read somewhere that Ketosis is harmful to the fetus. Is this so? And what is a good diet for insulin resistant women during pregnancy? How can I find an adequate level of carbs without first having an inadequate level? I've started eating "normally" again until I know what is safe, but I am already binging on carbs with the cravings for them irresistable. {Cravings from the carb addiction, not pregnancy cravings :)} I will eat, say Pizza, until I couldn't possibly stuff another bite in. Then I feel bloated, and sluggish, but as soon as my blood sugar drops I'm searching once again for a carb filled snack. Help!!
