Hi Sandra,

BCP are not necessarily bad for PCOSers, and used to be the first line treatment. Some women have a bad reaction to them and others don't. If you don't have a bad reaction, there is no reason not to continue. BCP (monophasic type) actually can be very useful in controlling symptoms of PCOS, ensuring you get regular periods and as contraceptive. The key thing is that they shouldn't be the ONLY form of treatment. A combination of BCP (Yasmin, Diane-35, or another monophasic), combined with an insulin sensitiser is an ideal combination, along with healthy lower carb diet and exercise. I am on diane-35 and metformin and am very happy with the combination - though it took six months, the hair is now noticeable less and I have the clearest skin I have had in my entire life. Though I am going to have a break in another month to see if I can actually ovulate or get a period on my own.

Best wishes
