Is low carb dieting/exersising enough?From: anonymous@obgyn.netWed, 27 Mar 2002 13:30:48 EST
Hello All, I'm hoping for some feedback on this issue. Since my last baby, Eighteen months ago, I have been trying hard to follow a Zone type diet, exercising and taking vitamins to help my pcos. I''ve managed to lower my insulin level from 19 to 8, so now my doctor will not put me on glucophage as originally planned. My question is this, is it better to be on glucophage anyway to treat my pcos, or to just stick with a sensible diet to keep it in check. My concern is that perhaps is would be wiser to be on the medications for long term health. Some side notes: I'm still struggling with 30 lbs that I cannot get rid of no matter what, I constantly crave sweets and am in constant battle with myself over this. My cholesterol is borderline high and my good cholesterol is low although I suppliment with flaxsseed oil,etc.. My sister and mother both have pcos and Adult onset diabetes. Should I try to convince my doctor that I still want to go on Glucophage, she says it will not be affective for my pcos because I've already lowered my insulin. Any advice appreciated. Thanks for your thoughts. Sandra
