Hi April,
If your Dr's opinion is this on PCOS, you better have a second opinion. Both PCOS and weight gain are the result of a metabolic disturbance called insulin resistance. The treatment of IR is insulin sensitizers (therre are 3 different brands available). BCPs are not very helpful in this condition, but if you need contraception and no other method suits you, you should try one of the antiandrogen BCPs.
