I TOTALLY understand your plight! I am terrified of doctors and clam up at
any appointment. I even suffered for 5 years because my doctor told me all he
could do for me was a hysterectomy, without even investifating the problem. I
had to beg him to do some bloodwork, then he finally did a scope and found
numerous cycst. He still insisted that I needed a hysterectome without telling
me what the problem was. Now, I have gained so much weight, and HATE to see
doctors even more. My periods have stopped completely and none of the
medications I have tried have helped me. I came up with a plan to help me in
dealing with doctors which also helps them to deal with patients like me.
If I have any questions, I write them on a piece of paper. I also write down
any information pertaining to my history and medications I am on, or have been
on. I am able to go over this numersous time before I go into the office and
make sure I do not miss anything. I then hand it to the doctor upon entering
the office. This way, if I clam up, I am not sitting there humming and hawing
with the doctor standing there with his/her hand on the door, trying to get out.
I have found doctors take me more seriously and work with me more. You may want
to try this and find out how differently you are treated. Good Luck! I hope
something works for you. There are so few good doctors out there and when you
find one, it seems so has everyone else. Time is of the essence and they seem
to care more for the next patient than for the one they are dealing with. I
even do this with all my kids appointments and then nothing is ever missed.
Furthermore, this keeps the emotions out of my questions and concerns and the
doctor can treat us with better.
