Glucophage Dosage?????

I was diagnosed on March 6 with PCOS. My Dr. immediately put me on an oral Contraceptive and Glucophage 500 mg. a day. Much of the research I have read on the Internet and in books says that most patients should start with 500 mg. twice daily and if they experience no GI problem, they should increase to 850 mg. twice daily. Am I on too small of a dosage? I have only been on it for a couple of weeks now and am still getting the shakes and feeling week a while after I eat. I can't really get some good help from my Dr. as the nurse said that 500 mg. is what he usually prescribes. What should I do?
