Re: metformin and infertility.From: Stephanie (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 20 Mar 2002 10:01:42 -0600 (CST)
I have also been diagnosed with PCOS. We have been trying for approx. 2 years to conceive. We have been up to 200 mg of clomid with a shot of profasi added and still no ovulation. Yesterday, my specialist also advised that I try one cycle of metformin. It is a drug used in the treatment of diabetes. He said it will cause your body to produce less insulin...too much insulin can cause you to not ovualte. You have to have blood tests done before you start. Kidney and liver function tests. He said, of his patients, he has had several women that respond well to this treatment. I am trying it...so I am hoping for success. The side effects sound minimal, so I thought it worth the try. Good luck! Stephanie
