Re: Anxious about starting metformin/glucophageFrom: tera (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 13 Mar 2002 21:58:13 -0600 (CST)
Hi, Christie, Don't be nervous. I'd say, GO FOR IT! Studies have shown that women with PCOS have a much greater chance of ovulating on a combination of Clomid and Metformin than on just Clomid alone. A gal on the regular forum posted a few days ago that she is now pregnant from the combo. There is hope!! As for side effects. There can be side effects from Met but not everyone has them. The "secret" (if there is one) is to start off slow and then work up to your prescribed dose. That should help with nausea or other gastric effects. Also, try taking it with food. Also, watch your carbs (sugar, pasta, rice, white potatoes, bread, etc.) This will also help your insulin levels along with your Metformin and will help your PCOS and your weight. I hope it works out. Let us know how you do. Feel free to e-mail me at anytime with any questions you may have. Take care. I'll keep you in my prayers. God bless! Tera
