Re: Birth Control Pill questionFrom: Sally (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 1 Mar 2002 18:43:54 -0600 (CST)
Hi, If the triphasic is working for you ok and you have no side effects, probably no reason not to continue, as long as other PCOS symptoms / insulin resistance are treated (if you do have pcos) at the same time - using an insulin sensitiser. BCP is not banned for PCOS and many women find them very helpful with symptom control and in fact they are traditionally one of the key treatment approaches. However, the general consensus at the moment is that the monophasic pills are better for us than the triphasic. Also some of the antiandrogenic pills can be useful if you have excess hair and skin problems (I use diane-35) and there are some others (Yasmin - I think? - someone one else can advise on that). By the way, BCP can mean that any hormone testing is not accurate. If you are going to be tested for hormone levels, probably you should be off the pill for about 3 months in order to get more accurate results. Other forms of contraception - are condom, spermicides, IUD (though they don't recommend that for women who have never had children), etc. Best wishes
-- Sally
