How do I convince my Gynae that glucophage could help me?From: Kathryn (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 28 Feb 2002 06:49:18 -0600 (CST)
I was diagnosed with PCOS 12 years ago. For 7 years this was controlled by taking BCP. I came off BCP 5 years ago. It took my partner and I 3 years to conceive our daughter, partly due to my PCOS and partly due to my partners reduced SA. We eventually conceived naturally. My daughter is now 15 months old. I am about 80lbs overweight, have irregular cycles, some of these are annovulatory (I now chart my temps to get a better odea of what's going on). I saw a gynae in November. I mentioned Metformin but he told me he'd never heard of this being used for PCOS treatment. He also said he didn't think I really had PCOS as, even though most of my cycles are irregular, sometimes up to 2 or 3weeks late, I do have about 11-12 bleeds/ menses a year. I gop back to see him next week. I have some info about Metformin from the internet, I also have a copy of a scan I had done 3 years ago where my ovaries were seen to be polycystic (he hadn't seen this scan report, done while I was under a different hospital) The more I read the more I believe metformin could help me. How can I convince him of this? I do want to have more children but my number one concern at the moment is trying to control the PCOS and my weight. Thank you.
