My daughterFrom: Betsy (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 22 Feb 2002 14:55:33 -0600 (CST)
My daughter Samantha is 16 and after 3 years of different doctors she has finally got a diagnosis of PCOS. They tried to use Aldactone and Orthotrycline - but neither worked. She is seeing a great Nutritionist - who has finally got her on a low carb diet and she has lost 20 pounds in about a month and a half - but she still has the most unbelievably unregulated periods. She is a varsity athlete throwing both shot put, disc, and weight and still bleeds about 3-4 weeks a month. She has terrible mood swings and she is getting pretty depressed about the entire situation. I have been doing a lot of reading about Glucophage - but from what I am reading it is not recommended for pediatric patients. Are most of you followed by an Endocrinologist or by a GYN and what birth control pills have you tried that you have found to be successful - or what other medications have worked for you. I can not tell you how thrilled I am to find that there are places like this to ask these types of questions. When I get home tonight I will have Sammy log onto her computer and check out this page. I would like to thank anybody who takes the time to answer this and I truly appreciate all of your assistance.
