Re: end of the lineFrom: SusieQ (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 21 Feb 2002 17:06:01 -0600 (CST)
Hi Kel, I had a hysterectomy, only option the doc offered at the time. It is a huge change. Some symptoms are gone - like the horrible periods and pms. But some things aren't affected - like your weight. The ovaries don't have anything to do with weight control...it's the insulin. Your ovaries are only wounded bystanders, not the car that hit them. However, no HRT can replace your own natural hormones. Some people never tolerate hrt, and there is the increased risk of osteoporosis. If you tolerate the bcps, then hrt should be ok. BTW, the uterus and cervix are always removed during a hyst, because the risk of uteran and cervical cancer increases dramatically after removal of the ovaries. It is a difficult decision, that I hope you will do lots of research on before making the decision. Please check-out the Menopause page for a list of symptoms and problems associated with Menopause. The Hysterectomy and Alternatives section may also have information you could use. luck, SusieQ
