Hi Emily!

Glad you've found an answer about the abdominal pain. (I don't think I read your earlier posts...sorry.) I know how scarey it can be. I also suffer from IBS and have gone in more then a few times because I was concerned about the pain. One time, I was sure it was a bladder infection because it seemed to be more centrally located, but by the next day, I was hurting enough to be convinced I had appendicitis. Well, it turned out I'd had a burst ovarian cyst that caused internal bleeding and required surgery to fix it. Since then, I'm even more cautious about monitoring my abdominal pain.

With IBS, like PCOS, what works for one person doesn't always work for another. It's something you have to be aware of and see if you can find the particular "triggers" that cause it to flare up. I've noticed mine seems to do so when we have weather changes. Milk products can also add to it, as many people with IBS are also lactose intolerant to some degree. I've found I can eat milk products in moderation and with other foods and they won't usually bother me.

If you're going to try adding more fiber to your diet, be sure to do so GRADUALLY!!! I know you're probably desperate for relief, but if you add it too fast, it's going to cause you more problems. Also, be sure to drink plenty of fluids to help push the fiber thru....and yeah, cuz Mom knows it's good for you. *grin*

I've noticed that nuts sometimes cause me trouble...other times they don't. Same thing with popcorn.

Trying to up your excersize a bit might be helpful too. Nothing strenuous necessarily, but walking or something like that is sometimes helpful with the digestive tract.

Often, when my IBS flares up, after the several trips to the bathroom, I'll know my bowels are cleared out, but the cramping will still be there. It's then that I might take a dose or two of Immodium to help stop the spasms of the bowel that cause so much pain. I'll also lie down for a while and rest, if at all possible, and this seems to help too.

I hope your doctor's right about the mood swings. *HUG* I know they aren't fun and it's a shame that sometimes we have to go thru them when starting new medications. I sometimes think that if MEN had to go thru them first hand, they might be working harder to find ways to avoid it! Until then....we'll just have to resort to making them as miserable as we are during those times. *wicked grin* hehehehe

Hugs,

Shelley

Hi girls. My pain had been getting worse, so I called my OB/GYN, and he told me to come in right away. He did the whole exam, including ultrasound, and found that my shooting pains were not from the ovaries. He said I have irritable bowel syndrome as well, and that's what was causing the pain. I do have good news however, The cysts in both ovaries have shrunk a little bit. I've only been on the Yasmin for 3 1/2 weeks, but it seems to be working. He said that the mood swings should get better in a few weeks as my body adjusts to the Yasmin. Yeah!!! He gave me some Darvocet for the pain, and told me to add more fiber to my diet because of the IBS. :-)Emily
