Re: crystal healing????? bit weird!!From: Renee (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 15 Feb 2002 08:07:37 -0800
Many psychics have been debunked when tested. In fact, I've never heard one pass a well-designed test. In fact, there is a prize of over a million dollars (I think it's up to 1.3 million now) for anyone who can prove any claim of psychic or other paranormal abilities. It's offered by the James Randi Educational Foundation. Go to http://www.randi.org/ for more info. Most psychics and the like are experts in cold reading. It's quite possible that they knew a little about PCOS (maybe they had a friend or family who has it), and knew what to ask about. Were you left alone before you went to see the psychic or healer? There could be microphones planted in the waiting room that heard you talking with a companion about your health concerns, etc. That's one way John Edward (Crossing Over) does it. (Aside from taking 6 hours to tape a show to allow editing of positive responses to be edited together with desired questions, etc.) Often, they start vague, get a response from you (spoken or body language), and take it from there, refining it based on your reactions. The basics of cold reading aren't that hard. In college I often dressed as a gypsy for Halloween. I got a book from the library on palmistry, and learned the names of the basic lines on the palm. Based on that, I would do "palm readings" via cold reading. I wasn't bad. Many people thought I was legit until I told them at the end that I made it all up and cold read them. If it's expensive, you're hesitant, and it's not an emergency, try doing a little research. I doubt you'll find any quality research in a peer reviewed journal showing the effectiveness of crystals. There's no physiological basis for crystal healing. What could putting a chunk of rock on your belly (or whatever is done) possibly do for you? If you're hesitant, that is probably something to listen to. I know that we are desperately looking for answers and help. As a result, it can be tempting to grasp at anything put before us, hoping that will be the magic answer to our problems. I just suggest you think thoroughly about it, do a little research if desired, and make the decision best for you and your needs. Renee
