Hi Monica, There are treatment options for PCOS and BCPs are not the best of them. It is generally accepted that PCOS is a metabolic disease: insulin resistance. All the symptoms (weigh gain, hair growth/loss, anovulation, irreg. cycles) are only consequences of this basic condition. In the end, many PCOSers become type2 diabetics if left untreated. Now as glucose imbalace is a frank contraindication to BCPs, it is not very wise to start one. The antiandrogen types (Diane, Yasmin) constitute a kind of exception from this rule. You should consult your dr about this, but if s/he is unwilling to start you on insulin sensitizers you better look for somone else. For your info Sam (Ob/Gyn,RE)
