Re: glucophage--dr sam or anyoneFrom: tera (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 7 Feb 2002 00:00:56 -0600 (CST)
Hi! I know that I have read in other posts before of how doctors did prescribe Glucophage to PCOS patients whose insulin tests turned out to be okay. Myself, I am only borderline insulin resistant. I have been on only 500 mg (considered to be a very low dose) of Glucophage for over a month and a half and I am on my second period! This is huge for me since I am rarely able to get periods without a prescription of Provera from my doctor. Many of my fasting insulin tests have come out to be normal but the Glucophage is obviously doing something for me, right? Absolutely! Some doctors may be wary of prescribing it to you with your test results and my doctor did so only after showing her my research and respectfully prodding her a little. Also, all of the research that I have read shows that the percentage of women with PCOS who ovulate on just Clomid is relatively small. However, the percentage of women with PCOS who take a *combination* of Clomid and Glucophage is extremely high! Every woman is different, though and you may have to work to find the dosages that work for you. For example, only 500 mg of Glucophage is doing something for me while another woman may be taking over 1500 mg per day to see benefits! Don't give up! Many women with PCOS are able to become pregnant with a little help! Make sure to rule out any male factors and if Clomid doesn't work, injectables might. Clomid did not work for me but I was able to make mature eggs with high doses of Fertinex! Not pregnant yet but I proved to myself that my body is capable of making "good eggs". Hope it works out! God bless! Tera
