Here is the thing that boggles my mind. I know that normal, healthy individuals require 150mcg's of kelp per day. 1000mcg=1mg ,therefore,if I am taking 10 milligrams, that would be the equivilent of taking 10,000 mcg's of the kelp, which I think is way too high. On the contrary, most supplements contain 600mg's of kelp,so this leads me to believe that the amount that I am consuming,is not that high at all. Actually,we do tend to take more vitamins that what the body requires,if taking supplements. This seems to be a tough one for me to figure out,as the kelp, lethecin and apple cider vinegar diet was once thought to be a popular diet. Also, you mentioned you take magnesium, And while on the subject of magnesium..a mineral that I have been on for quite some time now...it does tend to reduce stomach acidity and is to always be taken WITH A MEAL..NEVER AFTER A MEAL OR ALONE.It neutralizes stomach acid, and then can bring on the diarrrhea. The absorbtion is much greater.Take with morning breakfast and with evening dinner. And another thing to mention while on the subject of supplements and our condition with PCOS....it is important that women who are not menestrating regularily,do not take extra iron supplements.Overload of iron is toxic and is one mineral that can store in the body and become toxic and also lead to Hemochromatosis. If you notice vitamins for women over the age of 50,don't usually contain much or any iron in them. If you are menestrating and especially if you are bleeding/flowing quite heavily, then it is advisable to take iron in your supplements. Then you are replacing what you have lost during menestrating. Men have more iron stores in their body than most women do,because most men tend to be heavier meat eaters.Another reason why they are usually more at risk for strokes and heart attacks than normal women who are menestrating.Ass menestrating women,we rid the excess iron via menestration. This was really a shock for me when my doctor first told me to stop the iron supplements,as my red blood cell count is fairly high, although I do menestrate regularily...they aren't as heavy as they normally should be.More scant and just heavier the second day of my onset, then by the fourth day,,it's all done. I was told that with our condtion,it is always best to ask your doctor about adding additional supplements to your diet,as some can pose some dangers. This is why I am a little concerned about the Kelp.I have too many specialists, and some disagree with other's advice.I know my internist would be against the kelp for certain, but others would say it would pose some harm. I know I am actually making a big deal out of this, but I was feeling more antsy while on these neww vitamins.I gather too, that it is because they contain chromium +Vanadium(something I hate taking and have told my doc),so,I would gather he is still trying to get me to take something that has the latter two. I actually never realized that you can have too much of a good thing. Motto is:less is more! Hard for me to practice what I preach,as I tend to overdo almost everything, hoping to find that Magic Bullet! Take care and talk soon!=) (((hugs)))
