Hi!

I think that doctor's who are "in the know" about PCOS prescribe Glucophage instead of Rogaine because it doesn't just treat a PCOS symptom it treats the source of the symptom. And like the box will tell you - Rogaine does not work for everyone. It also says on the box and on their website that it is NOT for frontal balding. Many women with PCOS are thinning all over and many are thinning the most right in front (receding hairline). That is why I am unsure about taking it. I have heard from some women including women on this forum that Rogaine has helped them. I have also heard that anti-androgens have also helped them. And like I said, these are the same things that men do because the hair loss process is essentially the same.

Like you said, many doctors don't like to do anything about problems that they can't see or test for. Example: If you go to the doctor when your hair first starts thinning (like I did) your doctor might laugh you off (like mine did). It has been proven that the human eye usually cannot tell that a head of hair is thinning until up to 50% of the hair is already gone (unless it is your head of hair and you can tell not by sight but by feel and the fact that it's all going down the drain with your shampoo). That makes things tricky since with hair loss you are supposed to try to do something to stop it as soon as you realize that you are beginning to lose hair. I did what another lady did. I collected all of the hairs that fell out of my hair in one day including from the drain and brought them with me to my appt. I also brought all of my PCOS hair loss research and finally convinced her to put me on Spiro. I know way more about this stuff than she does but I go to her because she is open to the research. Love you ladies! God bless! Tera
