I have been Hypothyroid since I was 21 (I am now 32). I am on Synthroid which has done well for me. I was also diagnosed with PCOS (not from blood work or anything other than cysts when I ovulate and a Laporoscopy in 1996 that revealed cysts on right ovary, endometriosis in it's early stages, and a benign tumor whose origin seems to be related to a reaction to the endometriosis). After having my two daughters, my doctor at the time put me on Triphasil to help control and regulate my periods and to help with the discomfort of the cysts. I have since moved to another state and recently went to my regular practitioner for my yearly. Upon the exam she found both ovaries to be "lumpy" and has scheduled me for a pelvic ultrasound in a week. With her manipulations of the ovaries I have now had some burning and cramping in the right side area similiar to what i had previously when they would rupture. My endocrinologist ordered me to loose weight and get in shape in Oct. 2001 as my cholesterol counts were very high. I have since lost 16 1/2 pounds and have about 20 more to go, but am doing well with it. I basically am not sure if I should be on Triphasil or another birth control pill. I am not trying to conceive as DH has had a vasectomy. If I am not on the pill I do have periods but the cycles vary from 30 days to sometime even 40 or more days. I do have unwanted hair growth although not extreme. I am not sure what my course of action should be as I am sure they will find cysts next Friday as I should be close to ovutation then. Should I request a different BC or are there other tests I should be trying to get done? I'm in unchartered area here and not quite sure where to turn. Thank you for any and all help.
